Health is Wealth: Both Mental and Physical

Sportspersons cannot afford to ignore their health. Health is key to doing well in sports. An unhealthy person cannot have energy for the kind of intense physical activity that is required of sportspeople. So a knowledge of personal health is necessary for people engaging in intense physical activities.
Even if you are a person whose work is generally what we call a desk job, or the work of a researcher in a laboratory, you cannot afford to escape the question of personal health. In fact, those doing a desk job or any job that requires them to remain in a sedentary position for a length of time are more prone to health problems than sportspeople, for whom exercise is part of the job. Sitting in the same position for a long time can seriously damage your health. If you work for long hours then it is likely that you do not have a lot of time for exercising. In that case your health is bound to deteriorate very quickly.
You will find that when your health is down, your mental health tends to go down with it. You get quickly angry, you cannot remember things, you cannot concentrate on your job, you cannot solve problems that would have been easy for you at another time and so on and so forth. You get irritated quickly, you want to go to sleep and there are so many symptoms that would tell you that you are suffering from a bad health. That is because your mind is a physical property of the matters that you are made of, and if you do not take care of the matters, your mind is going to falter with your body. Of course, one would be tempted to cite Stephen Hawking as a counter example, but Stephen Hawking is, unfortunately, not a counter example because inability does not necessarily imply bad health. One may be blind and still have his other organs functioning perfectly. One may be paralyzed from waist down but still have his upper body working all right. The point is to make the best of what you have. That is the key to good health.

Now the question is, what you should do in order to keep yourself healthy. The best option is to visit a good nutritionist. He is the person to tell you what you should do according to your health, routine, food habit etc. You can also check out different online health blogs and stuff, but do not do anything rash about your personal health without consulting a physician. Sometimes the advices on the blogs may work against you. Try to eat healthy, avoid junk food and food with preservatives, eat a lot of vegetables and do not eat too much at a time. These are some of the common health advices that everyone should follow.
Sports nutrition is a specialist topic. For healthcare information on sports nutrition, nutrition supplementdiabetes management etc. you should always go to a professional.
